At least twelve (12) hours of pre-marital education are required prior to being married at Roseville Lutheran Church. Pre-marital education consists of the following:
- Pre-marital workshop (typically Friday evening and all day Saturday)
- Individual couples sessions with marriage and family therapist and/or pastor (amount of time determined by pastoral staff and marriage and family therapist)
The PREPARE inventory and Myers-Briggs test will be used by the pastors and marriage & family therapist. These inventories/tests must be taken prior to the beginning of the pre-marital sessions or workshops. They can be arranged to be taken through the Director of Life Ministry. The processing fees for these inventories are included in the wedding fees.
The pre-marital sessions/workshops can begin at anytime. The pre-marital workshops are only held two times a year so couples need to plan accordingly. Education sessions and workshops can be scheduled through the Director of Life Ministry.
Couples will not be married at Roseville Lutheran until the 12 hours of pre-marital counseling are completed.
Once the counseling is complete, the couples can receive a form from the church in order to get a reduced fee on their marriage license. Couples will need to contact the Director of Life Ministry to obtain the form. The couple needs to provide their full current legal names as they will appear on the marriage license application as well as the county in which they will apply for their license. A verified and completed form will be available for the couple to pick up in the church office. These forms will not be mailed. Please allow one to two weeks for this process.
If a couple lives out-of-state, they will need to complete 12 hours of pre-marital education with another pastor, counselor, and/or attend a Engaged Encounter-type retreat. They will need to submit written information that they completed the 12 hours. They will also need to meet at least 1-2 times with a RLC pastor prior to their wedding date. The church fees for the wedding remains the same.
