Making a Difference

Walk To End Hunger

This year, Roseville Lutheran has created a team to walk before their Thanksgiving meal. The RLC team will join Catholic Charities in its efforts to end hunger in the Twin Cities in the 2012 Walk to End Hunger at the Mall of America on Thanksgiving Day, November 22. There will be tables in Luther Commons during Sunday mornings in November to sign up.

1.Go to the Walk to End Hunger website (www.walktoendhunger.org)
2.Click on “Register Here” at the top of the page, then select “Join a Team – Roseville Lutheran”
3.Complete your registration ($25 registration fee for adults/no registration fee for those under 18.) Make your own donation and set your fundraising goal.  Most team members are selecting Keystone Community Services to receive their donations.

A reminder that all offerings from the Thanksgiving Wednesday & Thursday services are donated to Keystone Community Services.

Mountain Of Love

It has been a great tradition at Roseville Lutheran Church to build a mountain of food during Minnesota Food Share Month. The Mountain of Love presents an opportunity for us to reflect on all the blessings we have received from God and to remember the less fortunate.

As in James 2:14-17:
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Our local food shelf, Keystone Community Food Shelf, is the recipient of the cash and food donations from the Mountain of Love. With the high unemployment and the financial stress on families, Keystone Food Shelf is experiencing increased requests for food donations and their supplies are low. Mission and Outreach will match dollar for dollar all monetary donations up to $4,000 for Keystone Food Shelf. Keystone is able to buy around $5 of food for every $1 it receives in donations. Our goal for this year is to raise $ 8,000 and 4,000 lbs of food.

Please take this great opportunity to help families in our community by participating in the Mountain of Love.

Souper Bowl of Caring

A very exciting event each year is the Super Bowl. But while we are planning parties and all the food we are going to consume during the commercials, what about those who are in need. Many families in our community are struggling with hunger due to the increasing costs of in heating, gas, and basic essentials. The Mission and Outreach Team with Youth Ministries are supporting the RLC Souper Bowl of Caring. We collect cans and cases of soup throughout January till Super Bowl Sunday. Your donations will be sent to our local food shelf – Keystone Community Food Shelf. Please take this opportunity to help those less fortunate in our community by participating in the RLC Souper Bowl of Caring.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

From Saturday, November 3 to Sunday, November 25
Roseville Lutheran Church will be collecting items for those in need at RLC and donations for Keystone Community Food Shelf.  Please help us support those in need in our community. Food Shelves can use most food items and household supplies.  Items need to be pre-packaged and cannot be expired items.

Food
Canned meat products, boxed dinners, macaroni and cheese, bulk rice, bulk canned or dried beans, canned pasta (ravioli, etc.), hearty soups, pasta, cooking oil, flour and sugar

Personal care items
bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, laundry detergent, paper products, toothbrushes, diapers

Cash donations are always appreciated since Keystone Community Foodshelf  can purchase $4 of food for every $1 of donations.

Warm Toes and Tummies

Help the homeless keep warm this winter.  A tradition at Roseville Lutheran Church is collecting socks for the homeless served at the Dorothy Day Center.  We will collect new socks from now through December 9th.  The socks will be given out at the Dorothy Day Center on Monday December 10 at Roseville Lutheran’s monthly Loaves and Fishes dinner.

Sharing Tree

The RLC Sharing Tree will continue this Christmas season.   Please take an ornament, purchase the gift, and then place it unwrapped under the tree by December 16th.  Due to requests from the groups, we will be focusing on gift cards. The gift cards should be placed in the lock box next to the sharing tree. Your gifts will benefit children and adults served by many organizations that RLC supports.  The December 16th deadline allows the organizations to pick up and deliver your gifts prior to Christmas.  Thank you for keeping the Sharing Tree tradition alive at RLC!
