Mountain Of Love
The time has arrived to build the 2012 Mountain of Love. It has been a great tradition at Roseville Lutheran Church to build a mountain of food during Minnesota Food Share Month. The Mountain of Love presents an opportunity for us to reflect on all the blessings we have received from God and to remember the less fortunate.
As in James 2:14-17:
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
Our local food shelf, Keystone Community Food Shelf, is the recipient of the cash and food donations from the Mountain of Love. With the high unemployment and the financial stress on families, Keystone Food Shelf is experiencing increased requests for food donations and their supplies are low. Mission and Outreach will match dollar for dollar all monetary donations up to $4,000 for Keystone Food Shelf. Keystone is able to buy around $5 of food for every $1 it receives in donations. Our goal for this year is to raise $ 8,000 and 4,000 lbs of food.
Please take this great opportunity to help families in our community by participating in the Mountain of Love. We are asking members to bring in cases of food to make the base for the Mountain of Love on the weekend of March 3/4. Then, through Sunday March 25, please bring bags of groceries to build a Mount Everest sized Mountain of Love. Please, look for the Mountain of Love announcement sheet in the bulletin starting February 25/26.
Souper Bowl of Caring
The time is rapidly approaching for the Super Bowl. But while we are planning parties and all the food we are going to consume during the commercials, what about those who are in need. Many families in our community are struggling with hunger due to the increasing costs of in heating, gas, and basic essentials. The Mission and Outreach Team with Youth Ministries are supporting the RLC Souper Bowl of Caring. We will be collecting cans and cases of soup throughout January till Super Bowl Sunday on February 5th. Your donations will be sent to our local food shelf – Keystone Community Food Shelf. Please take this opportunity to help those less fortunate in our community by participating in the RLC Souper Bowl of Caring.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
RLC continues the tradition of a Thanksgiving Holiday food drive. All donations will be sent to our local food shelf – Keystone Community Food Shelf. We will be collecting items in Luther Commons from Saturday November 12th through Sunday November 27th
Financial gifts given during this time will be sent to Keystone Food Shelf. Through Keystone’s relationship with Second Harvest Heartland, they are able to provide $4 of food for every $1 donation. Please help us support those in need in our community.
Warm Toes and Tummies
Help the homeless keep warm this winter. A tradition of Roseville Lutheran Church is collecting new socks that are given to the homeless at the Dorothy Day Center. Each month on the second Monday, members of RLC make and serve dinner at the Dorothy Day Center. On Monday December 12th, RLC will give socks to everyone coming for dinner as a gift to help keep them warm during the cold winter months.
Sharing Tree
Another Roseville Lutheran tradition is the Sharing Tree. A Christmas tree is set out in the Commons with ornaments labeled with a gift item. Members take the ornament and purchase the gift, and then place it unwrapped under the tree. These gifts benefit children and adults served by several organizations that RLC supports in our local community.
