Our group of RLC volunteers is preparing to leave in a few days and travel on a mission trip to Martin, Slovakia. We will be teaching conversational English to about 60 college students at the Bible School. This trip is coming soon after a group of builders completed another successful mission trip to the same place, where they helped rebuild classrooms for the elementary school.
Left to right, the four English teachers are Dave Lorenz, Kären Dudley, Dave Dudley, and Diane Schweitzer. We will represent RLC as we work for two weeks with eight other teachers from several churches in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This trip continues a long tradition of RLC’s involvement with the Vision Slovakia program to help revitalize the Lutheran faith in Central Europe following years of suppression during the Communist era.
Another RLC volunteer, Jewelie Grape, will be joining us in Martin to teach at a week-long Vacation Bible School that is expected to serve 200-300 young children. This year the children will be learning about the closeness of Jesus in their lives, based on the “I am…” identities of Jesus in the Gospel of John. They will do so through music, crafts, and other activities.
All of us are excited about this opportunity to serve others, and we give thanks to God for leading us on this trip. Please pray for us and the young people we will be serving.
Watch here for future BLOG entries once we arrive in Martin, Slovakia, starting June 23rd.
