After three non-fiction books, this is our first work of fiction to read together this year. This is Adichie's first novel, written when she was in her mid-20's. It's a coming-of-age story of a teen girl growing up in Nigeria in a wealthy family that is torn by her fanatically religious father. Adichie was born in Nigeria in 1977 and has earned a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins and another Master's Degree in African Studies from Yale. Her writing is beautiful, sensitive, and easy to read (307 pages). The book is readily available at libraries, bookstores, and online.
