John 2:19-21 (NIV)
Tuesday, February 20

Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days. They replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

Can't you just hear the people questioning Jesus? Can you tell their reaction to his statement? Are they scoffing? Or, just perhaps, are they expressing not disbelief, but wonder? And is their reaction all that different from ours, even after we have been let in on his secret meaning?

Don't we also react to the claim of the resurrection with a mixture of disbelief and awe? Does any of us have absolute confidence in the physical resurrection of the body, which none of us has yet seen? Isn't that why we need to hear the story again and again? Isn't that why we need to come together with a community of others struggling to believe? Isn't that why we need the Holy Spirit to work in us?

Prayer:

Lord, I believe. Help thou my unbelief. Continue to work with me to strengthen my faith in your promise of life. Amen
