Our Neighbors and Me

The Roseville community was touched by tragedy last July when Philando Castille was killed near Larpenteur and Snelling, shaking our church’s neighborhood to its core. In the days that followed, members gathered for conversation and support. In discussion, we talked of our Roseville neighborhood’s evolving racial makeup, rising poverty rates, growing hunger, the challenges in the schools, and our local government’s interaction with these issues.

The group became “Our Neighbors and Me.” Book groups were formed and discussed the anthology, A Good Time for the Truth, Race in Minnesota, a collection of stories written by local Twin Cities authors.

An all-new version for Saint Paul by Tom Fabel and Eric Wood
Directed by Richard D. Thompson

It’s 1924 in St. Paul: This drama recounts the horrific events and shameful history of housing segregation in St. Paul’s Groveland Park neighborhood. William and Nellie Francis, both civil rights advocates and leading citizens in St. Paul’s growing African- American community, dared to move from their home in the Rondo neighborhood to the “home of their dreams” in this all-white neighborhood. Little did they know, neighbors would burn a cross in their front yard in an attempt to terrorize them and force them to abandon their dreams.
