Today was ‘parents, students & staff’ day to work in the ‘Destruction’ Zone of the new High School Building. There were about 30 people total from all ages. A LOT of things got REMOVED and MOVED today.
Scrap wood was loaded into a truck, and concrete/plaster debris was dumped into construction dumpsters…like SEVEN of them over the course of the past 4 days, one 4 gallon bucket after another. Just call us ‘the bucket brigade’.
Hammer Drills were in use much of the morning hammering out two layers of overlay concrete flooring. The ceiling height is an issue with the government regulations and to solve that issue, two layers of overlaid concrete flooring is coming out. WHAT A MESS! Over 3000 square feet of ceiling and concrete floor debris is a lot!
We had lunch with our Slovak workmates (delicious bean/sausage soup). We then cleaned up so Eva Janotová (who stayed with KJ in 2009) could then take us on a hike around the Outdoor Museum area.
We met L’uboš & Katka Frolová and their 2 children, Terezka and Tomáš at the entrance to the museum and then walked around the outside of the little village as it is closed for the season. Eva’s brother, Igor, also came for a visit and joined the hike, along with another friend of Eva’s from the Ukraine. It truly was an international group. What fun!!
Five high school students cooked halušky for us this evening. It was absolutely delicious. Barbara, Marek, Julia, Andrej, and Maria did a great job of entertaining the Builders Group. Blythe and Tony Barreto were also in attendance (they are from Chicago area and teaching/working at the CCE for a couple of years). We ended the evening with a round of Farkle. What a delightful evening together with these young folks.
Tomorrow is a day of rest. We all need a day off between the hard labor of demolition and the rather COLD temperatures for Slovakia (it was -4 degree Fahrenheit this morning). But the temperatures are forecast to rise over the next week, so that by the time we get to Krakow it might be 50 degrees!
Please continue your AWESOME prayer support. We recognize and feel that support every minute…especially when there could be so many things that COULD go awry but are not!
