After a night’s rest we were ready to start our work at the CCE on the new building. Dušan S. and Dušan were ready to give us our work orders this morning after reconnecting with Eva J, Katka F and little Terezka, too, Janka M, Natália K, and meeting Slavka Daniel who is married to Mark Daniel’s cousin, David. Mark is one of the Builders Group and found out after signing up for the Builders Group that his cousin, David, was retired and now living and working at the CCE in Martin. Mark and David had not seen each other in several decades. What a GRAND reconnection! Please note… we are CLEAN at this point… that’s won’t be the case in the days ahead.
Our work direction was quite simple…tear down walls and rip up floors! We simply had to not tear down the wrong wall or rip up the wrong floor. The crew found a rhythm pretty quickly and by lunch time we had demolished a couple of wooden walls and were well on our way to removing linoleum flooring (2 layers with really tough glue) and even starting to remove a really nice parquet wooden floor (Randi wanted it for her kitchen!). We still had 3 interior walls and the hallway wall to remove. We all worked at the various tasks of demolition from swinging a hammer or pickax or pushing a shovel or broom or carrying debris to it’s designated ‘pile’ or dumpster. They are conscious of recycling metal and wood.
By 3pm we had pulled up most of the 2 layers of linoleum removed and well on our way to removing the parquet flooring. Another small interior room with wood and glass walls was removed, and THEN… the real demolition started with a few swings of a pickaxe, one of the clayblock/plaster walls started coming down. Everyone had there turn at demolition or shoveling debris or carrying buckets of debris to the chute that emptied into a dumpster. With two of the three interior walls removed, we felt good about our accomplishments today. Even the architect stopped by to see the progress and was impressed with our work. We aim to please!
We are heading to the local Czech Restaurant at the end of the pedestrian way for dinner with some of the CCE Staff. As usual, the Slovaks make sure we are well fed!!
Please continue to hold us in prayer for safety in our work efforts. This is truly a construction site so there are lots of things to trip over or step on or get jabbed with.
