Sheridan Story

The Sheridan Story project was started in 2010 when school administrators at Sheridan Elementary school in NE Minneapolis discovered children hoarding food in the school cafeteria on Fridays, to bring home with them for the weekend. The Mill City Church used the school’s auditorium on weekends, and administrators asked them if the would provide food for some of the students to take home with them on the weekends. They started by providing non-perishable food for 27 kindergarteners and by 2013, Sheridan Story was incorporated as a non-profit which today provides weekend meals for about 7000 students in 144 schools.

Roseville Lutheran partners with several other churches in Roseville to provide bags of food for children at Central Park Elementary School. The other churches include Prince of Peace and Hope Grove Church. RLC provides financial support for 40 students and volunteers to distribute the food once a month at the two schools. There are about 65 students at Central Park that receive the food.

The food bags contain a protein, such as canned chicken or tuna or beans, a starch, such as pasta or rice and a fruit and vegetable. The food is placed in the child’s backpack in the elementary school and picked up by the students at the Middle school. Each bag costs about $3.71, or $130 per year, per student.

We need volunteers to distribute the bag of food on 12 dates throughout the school year. Four volunteers are needed on each date. The location is Central Park Elementary School, 535 County Road B2 W., Roseville. The time is 9:30-!0:30 am.
