Rest in the Grace of the World

Posted by Lauren Wrightsman on

You know when you come upon something
that resonates with where you're at,
right at the moment?
This is one of those things for me!
So today, I'm sharing this devotion
I saw from writer Parker Palmer.

– Pastor Lauren.

Great poems seem to have been written for whatever moment we find ourselves in.

“The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry is such a poem. What better moment to read it than right now, when so many of us are seeking peace?

When despair grows in us, we can count ourselves lucky if we have easy access to wild nature. But many of us don’t.

One of the reasons I love this poem is that, read with a creative imagination, it can “take us there.”

I can’t “lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water.” But given Berry’s gift of words, I can rest my soul in the beauty of this poem.

And (by clicking here) I can rest in the sound of Berry reading it…
