Stories of RLC: A Definition of Community

Posted on

Since 1987, Bridging has furnished more than 90,000 homes, serving people who are transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.  Through the effective reuse of donated items, Bridging improves lives by providing the basic necessities for those in need. Over the years, Roseville Lutheran Church has partnered with Bridging in a variety of ways including our “Dresser Builds” where we put together new dressers to be distributed.

Bridging, however, doesn’t do its work simply by receiving donated goods – countless volunteer hours go into sorting, repairing, cleaning and distributing these furnishings.  Roseville member Jeff Bowar is one of the many who volunteers who assists with this ministry. Often times this involves helping pick up client orders when they arrive at the facility, or, going out to pick up items that have been donated.

When asked about his involvement and how it speaks to our mission to “Love God. Love your neighbor.” Jeff said, “It gives me a chance to give back to the local community to people who truly have a need. All the volunteers and the staff want to provide some hope and opportunity to those that need it. The fact that we can do that, while providing an amazing recycling of the excess that many of us have, is one definition of community.”
