This sermon or letter by an anonymous author is likely one of latest writings included in the New Testament. It reveals a Christian community that is wrestling, often with deep disagreements, about what it means to follow Christ in the world, not least being what to do about those who were saying that Jesus did not really come in the flesh. Reading carefully between the lines, in our two sessions we will explore what insights we can gain from a church that by the beginning of the 2nd century is struggling with threats to unity and with what lies at the center of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
